Global Warming 2010
Michael Livermore spoke to over 600 environmental activists at “Global Warming 2010: Creating Jobs and Saving the Planet”: http://my.pennfuture.org/site/Calendar/1759306042?view=Detail&id=106201. The event was sponsored by The American Cities Foundation, The Academy of Natural Sciences, Citizens for Pennsylvania’s Future (PennFuture) and 350philly!
Zeroing in on the regulatory options available to EPA now that climate legislation seems unlikely to pass in the U.S. Congress, Livermore’s presentation supposed that attention would quickly turn to what actions might be taken through agencies. Referring to Policy Integrity’s April 2009 report The Road Ahead he pointed out that the Clean Air Act gives wide authority to enact greenhouse gas controls and even a cap-and-trade program.
The event focused on how controlling climate change can also expand the economy, create green jobs and preserve the planet. Speakers provided details of global warming initiatives, state and federal legislation and to move the nation forward. The featured speaker was Bill McKibben author and founder of the international 350.org climate campaign.
