DEI Statement

The Institute for Policy Integrity recognizes that diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are essential to achieving our mission. Prioritizing DEI strengthens our organization, results in higher-quality work products, allows us to engage with a broader range of stakeholders, and benefits the greater community.

OUR WORK

We encourage policymakers to account for the full range of factors that affect public wellbeing. These include measures of public health, environmental quality, and consumer protection that are often undercounted or overlooked. We advocate for policies that advance environmental health; acknowledge and address the inequitable distribution of policy costs and benefits; enhance procedural justice so communities have an effective voice in policy; and work to advance environmental, energy, and climate justice. We also help strengthen the capacity of other organizations that have complementary goals.

OUR PEOPLE

Our mission requires a skilled, diverse workforce and an inclusive, respectful work environment. We value our differences and believe our diverse backgrounds and perspectives maximize our collective impact. We’re committed to a culture in which all staff feel they’re included and belong during their time at Policy Integrity, and we foster the professional growth of our staff members by aligning work opportunities to their unique skillsets.

INTERDISCIPLINARY COLLABORATION, EDUCATION, AND TRAINING

Policy Integrity’s work is inherently interdisciplinary, and our projects integrate staff members with legal, economic, and policy expertise. This approach leverages a variety of backgrounds and perspectives, improves the quality of our work, and enriches our organizational culture. We recruit staff members and fellows from around the globe, and our alumni have gone on to prestigious roles in government, non-profit organizations, business, and academia.

Through our fellowship programs and the Regulatory Policy Clinic at NYU School of Law, we mentor dozens of lawyers and economists annually, and we encourage our fellows to develop their own original research and advocacy projects.

OUR COMMITMENT TO DEI

Pursuing our DEI goals is an ongoing process that requires consistent effort and attention in an evolving workplace and world. To operationalize this commitment, we established a permanent DEI Committee representative of staff across the organization. This committee continuously explores opportunities to enhance our organizational culture. To ensure DEI is central to our organizational practices and culture, we seek regular feedback on our policies, practices, and processes both internally and from external experts.

In addition to our efforts to advance organizational practices and culture, we maintain a portfolio of projects centered on environmental, climate, and energy justice. These projects seek to advance equitable and just outcomes through research and principled participation in policymaking processes.
