Physician’s Conscience Rule Recinded

Today, the Obama administration rescinded the 2008 Bush-era physician conscience rule, which extended protections to health care providers who refused to provide certain services due to moral or religious objections.

In 2008, we teamed up with the Center for Reproductive Rights, Planned Parenthood, and others to submit comments arguing that the cost-benefit analysis done in support of the regulation by the Department of Health and Human Services failed to account for the rule’s economic costs. In 2009, comments by a coalition of women’s health organizations proposed a rescission and incorporated Policy Integrity’s comments.
