Public Comments on White House Cost-Benefit Proposal

Policy Integrity submitted comments today on proposed changes to the White House Council on Environmental Quality (“CEQ”) Principles and Standards for Water and Land Related Resources Implementation Studies. The proposal was released on December 9, 2009 and today marks the deadline for comments.

Our suggested changes included a suggestion that agencies evaluate their major projects retrospectively—a practice done rarely—to ascertain the benefits and costs and to inform future projects.
An additional recommendation, that agencies publicly release data used in their cost-benefit analyses so that the reviews can be reproduced by third-party organizations.

We look forward to seeing the final results of the Principles and hope some of our suggestions will be addressed.
